- November 2, 2006

From the Palo Alto Daily News Website.

Dr. Roland H. Alden, of Placerville, died Nov. 2 at the age of 92.

Born in Champaign, Ill., Alden spent his childhood in Palo Alto. He attended Palo Alto High School, and Stanford, before receiving his doctorate in biology and zoology at Yale. In 1942, he became an instructor at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

Alden was active in the Rotary Club, the Red Cross, and the Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Together with his wife of 65 years, Aimee, he helped found the Les Passees Treatment Center for Cerebral Palsied Children.

In 1979, Alden retired and moved back to California, where he pursued longstanding interests in hunting, fishing, gardening and tending to the family vacation cabin at Fallen Leaf.

Alden was preceded in death by his wife, Aimee, and his son, Peter MacDonald Alden. He is survived by his children, Patricia Alden and Roland Alden Jr., and his grandchild, Alexandra Thompson.

Private services will be held at Alta Mesa Cemetery.

Donations can be made in Alden's name to Alta California Regional Center in Placerville.
