Dr. Roland H. Alden, of Placerville, died Nov. 2 at the age of 92.
Born in Champaign, Ill., Alden spent his childhood in Palo Alto. He attended
Palo Alto High School, and Stanford, before receiving his doctorate in
biology and zoology at Yale. In 1942, he became an instructor at the
University of Tennessee in Memphis.
Alden was active in the Rotary Club, the Red Cross, and the Society for
Crippled Children and Adults. Together with his wife of 65 years, Aimee, he
helped found the Les Passees Treatment Center for Cerebral Palsied Children.
In 1979, Alden retired and moved back to California, where he pursued
longstanding interests in hunting, fishing, gardening and tending to the
family vacation cabin at Fallen Leaf.
Alden was preceded in death by his wife, Aimee, and his son, Peter MacDonald
Alden. He is survived by his children, Patricia Alden and Roland Alden Jr.,
and his grandchild, Alexandra Thompson.
Private services will be held at Alta Mesa Cemetery.
