APS Files Comments on USDA Contingency Plan Rule
The APS submitted comments on a regulatory proposal by the USDA to require institutions subject to the Animal Welfare Act to put into place contingency plans to provide for regulated animals in the event of emergencies or natural disasters. Although there is broad support for the notion that institutions should undertake contingency planning, questions have been raised about whether this should be made a requirement under the AWA regulations.
If your institution has not yet submitted comments on this proposal, please encourage it to do so. The comment deadline is February 20.
