On Friday, August 7, 2009, the Senate unanimously confirmed Francis Collins to be the next NIH Director.
FY 2010 Appropriations Update
The 2009 summer Congressional recess began on August 7 with the adjournment of the Senate. Before leaving town, the House of Representatives completed work on all the Appropriations bills, while the Senate was able to complete only four of their 12 bills. When the Senate returns in September, there will be a limited amount of time to complete that work before the end of the fiscal year. Scientific Priorities and OSTP

The memo identifies four cross-cutting priority areas, including “applying biomedical science and information technology to help Americans live longer, healthier lives while reducing health care costs.”
