Research Helps Animals and People
As part of its Raising Voices, Saving Lives Campaign, Americans for Medical Progress (AMP) has developed two DVDs with accompanying materials to provide physcians and veternarians with resources to talk to their clients about how animal research helps them do their jobs.
Animal research is vital to medical discovery. It also plays a key role in improving veterinary care—from vaccine development to dental care. As AMP points out, “for medical progress to continue, the public must understand, respect and support scientists’ work with laboratory animals.” Physicians and veterinarians can play a unique role is fostering that respect.
Materials in the Physician DVD talk about how research is conducted and what studies have translating into medical benefits. The Veternarian DVD features a tour of an animal research facility, discussion of the 3Rs and interviews with veterinarians supportive of animal research.
Exerpts from the DVDs and pdfs of their accompanying materials are available online and hard copies of both are available for free from AMP.
