Important Information about the NIH Public Access Policy and Your
Manuscript
The NIH Public Access Policy requires that its
funded investigators submit to PubMed Central (PMC) all manuscripts accepted
after April 7, 2008 resulting from research supported in whole or in part
with funds from NIH.
As of the July 2008 published issues, if you
are funded by NIH or are an employee of NIH, APS
will deliver the final published research article to PMC for you for the
following APS journals:
AJP – Endocrinology and Metabolism
AJP – Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology
AJP - Heart and Circulatory Physiology
AJP – Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology
AJP- Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology
AJP – Renal Physiology
Journal of Applied Physiology
Journal of Neurophysiology
Advances in Physiology Education
Physiological Genomics
You must acknowledge explicitly in the text
of your research article that (1) the research in the article you authored
was funded by NIH and (2) and/or your institutional affiliation with NIH in
order for APS to deliver your article to PMC shortly after final
publication.
APS will instruct PMC to render the research article publicly
available 12 months after final publication. This period of time is
consistent with the APS policy to render all content publicly available
through HighWire Press 12 months after article issue publication and ensures
compliance with your copyright agreement with APS.
For review articles in APS review journals (Physiology
and Physiological Reviews), the task of delivering articles to comply
with the NIH Public Access Policy remains the responsibility of the author.
Other Funding Agencies that Require Posting to PMC
If you are not funded or employed by NIH but
by a different agency that requires posting to PMC, e.g.; the Research
Councils UK – MRC and BBSRC; the Welcome Trust or the Howard Hughes Medical
Institute, the APS will submit your final published article to PMC for you.
You must be sure to acknowledge explicitly within the text of your
article the funding source of the research in the article you authored
and/or your institutional affiliation, so that your article will be tagged
for delivery by us to PMC. APS will have the PMC render the article
publicly available 12 months after final publication. If your funding agency
requires that access to
your article be made publicly available prior to 12 months after
publication, you are required to pay an AuthorChoice fee,
which will enable your article to be publicly accessible on the Journal site
and in PMC immediately upon receipt of payment by us.
Articles posted to PMC are protected by APS-held
copyright and are posted to PMC by permission of APS. At the time of
deposit, posted articles included all changes made during peer review,
copyediting, and publishing. PMC and PMC mirror site host organizations are
responsible for all links within the article and for incorporating any
publisher-supplied amendments or retractions issued subsequently. Articles
for which no open access fee has been paid will be made publicly available
on the APS journal site and in PMC 12 months after article issue
publication.
If you have any questions with respect to the
NIH Public Access Policy or other funding agencies’ policies and the
publication of your article in an APS
journal,
you may contact the APS at
APSPMC@the-aps.org.
